It is with great sadness we have to inform you that Mr Alan Goldie passed away at the weekend aged 61 years.
Alan was originally a member of Great Smeaton Young Farmers’ Club and has played a very active role at Club, District, County, and National level. Alan was enthusiastic about all aspects of the Young Farmers’ movement and held the following roles of office:
YFYFC Finance & General Purposes Chairman 1989 – 1990
YFYFC County Chairman 1991 – 1993
YFYFC County President 2012 – 2014
NFYFC Chairman – 1996
We were honoured to elect Alan as an Honorary Life Member of Yorkshire in 2021 and Alan kindly dedicated a trophy for the best contribution to members’ speeches at the Yorkshire Annual General Meeting a number of years ago. Alan was affectionately known to his friends as “The Cowboy” and was often seen wearing a baseball cap. Alan could often be found stewarding at the National Convention of YFC long after he retired from office.
Alan was proud to see one of his daughters, Rachel, become National Chairman of Young Farmers’ in 2021 – 2022; being the only family to have a father and daughter to both hold this prestigious national chain of office.
Alan’s dairy farm was home to the Wiskemanor Holsteins herd, and Alan could often be found as Chief Cattle Steward. In addition, he was North Yorkshire County Show Chairman, a proud member of the Holstein Young Breeders, supporting young people in the dairy industry and passing on his knowledge to the younger generation of farmers. Alan leaves behind his wife Margaret, ex Catterick YFC member, daughters Fiona, Anna, and Rachel, plus granddaughter Lilly.
Mr Goldie’s funeral will be held on Friday 15th September 2023, at 2.00pm at Danby Wiske Parish Church, Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
