As many clubs begin to return back after the summer break, we want to help you get up and running again by hosting a virtual meeting to discuss Club Winter Programmes.

We all hope the coronavirus pandemic is behind us, so all clubs can open their doors once again with little disruption or restrictions.
A fun, exciting and engaging club programme is a great way to re-engage past members whilst also attracting new members.
Thank you to all our members for taking part in the Virtual County Rally 2021. We of course could not have done this without our judges, stewards and scorers – so thank you!!
It may not have been a normal rally, but it’s been great to see such a high standard of competition – good luck to any members going through to Northern Area Field Day at the end of June.
Well done to everyone who has taken part. Full results booklet will be available online over the next week or so once compiled and published.

Most of the clubs across Yorkshire FYFC are made up of a mixture of under and over 18s. This means meetings should be held outdoors – stuck for some programme ideas – see the video below:
On Thursday 22nd April 2021, Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs held their Executive Committee AGM online for a second year running. Ed Bentley of Helmsley YFC was elected as Chairman, with Vice Chairman Tim Weatherhead of Knaresbourgh YFC continuing for a second year.
Ed takes over from outgoing chair Georgina Fort.
The past year has been very difficult for everyone in their personal and working lives, and YFC is no different. Almost overnight, all in-person club meetings were forced to stop, and any interactions between members have had to be online using Zoom/Teams.
Accepting the position of Chairman, Ed addressed the members:
“Firstly, on behalf of members and the Federation, I would like to thank Georgie for all her hard work over the past two years as County Chair and wish her and new family well.
With Covid-19 restrictions gradually being lifted, there now seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel, and Clubs can start meeting, all be it in a restricted way. Restarting of Clubs and Districts is going to be a challenge in the next few months, but one I’m up for!
Yorkshire excelled once again in public speaking at the Northern Area Weekend on the 27th & 28th February 2021. The event was held virtually for the first time and was organised by Northumberland. The members enjoyed taking part and are glad they are able to do something during lockdown. Yorkshire members were mentioned in the top 3 for most of the competitions with some teams qualifying for the next round which the is the national finals!!

Worth Valley Young Farmers Club and their team of volunteers battled through ice, rain, snow and Corona virus precautions last week to collect 1800 trees for this year’s Manorlands Hospice Christmas tree recycling scheme. The project has raised £21,520 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Club Chairman Joe Holmes and Treasurer Emma Kettlewell were part of the collection team along with other members, former members and other volunteers. Even our YFYFC County Chair Georgie Fort leant a hand when one of the collection vehicles got stuck stuck in snow less than half a mile from her farm and it was soon back on the road again thanks to YFC power. Joe said, “We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who booked in their tree, our amazing volunteers, Skipton Self Drive for loaning us the vans and Keighley Tree Services for shredding the trees and sending the chippings off to the bio-power station.”
Emma added, “This incredible amount will help Sue Ryder to continue to be there when it matters for people going through the most difficult time of their lives; giving people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.”
Young Farmers is the largest youth movement in the countryside and has members aged 10 to 26 years old. Despite the name the organisation is not just for farmers, indeed our members come from a wide range of backgrounds. Whilst some of the meetings are still linked to the clubs farming roots we get involved in many other positive activities such as sports, public speaking, social events and charitable activities such as this one.
We can confirm that our annual forum will once again happen in 2021. Due to the restrictions this will be an online event. We hope to have a lively debate as we explore the future of British Agriculture as we enter life after Brexit. A deal was struck over Christmas 2020 so this is our chance to ask questions and the opinions of a prestigious panel. So far we have confirmed Robert Goodwill MP and Dorothy Fairburn, CLA. The evening will be chaired by our County Chairman, Georgina Fort who is a dairy and sheep farmer.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect YFC activities, it’s important that members have things to keep them busy as winter sets in!
5 fun and easy competitions include:
Competitions are open to all under 27 years of each – remember the YFC age group has been extended by an additional year due to Coronavirus.
The Christmas Card and Pumpkin Carving competitions will be shortlisted and winning entry chosen by a Facebook vote.
Competition winners will be announced during National Young Farmers Week – 26th October to 1st November 2020.
